CSKT-VR Program Improves with the Help of AIVRTTAC
In 2021, I became the TVR Director for the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes Vocational Rehabilitation Program (CSKT-VR), where I supervised four staff members. In 2024, the program experienced a significant staffing shortage, and I operated as the sole employee for over six months. During this time, I successfully filled all vacant positions; however, I was initially overwhelmed by the prospect of onboarding and training an entirely new team.
I was already connected with the American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Training and Technical Assistance Center (AIVRTTAC), who were aware of our program’s needs. The CSKT-VR Program entered into an agreement with AIVRTTAC in October 2024, which continued through April 2026. During this period, we received intensive training and technical assistance in key areas, including case file reviews, case file management, group and individual coaching sessions, and structured training opportunities. Their support and training approach have been exceptional.
As a result of AIVRTTAC’s services, the CSKT-VR Program has demonstrated measurable improvements in compliance with AIVRS regulations. I have increased my capacity and confidence in managing staff, and staff have strengthened their knowledge and competence in case management practices. Two of the most notable areas of improvement identified through case file reviews were eligibility determinations and the development of comprehensive Individualized Plans for Employment (IPEs) in partnership with TVR participants.
Without AIVRTTAC’s assistance, the CSKT-VR Program would not have been able to provide onboarding and training at the pace necessary to meet participant needs and maintain continuity of services.
